The date is another marker in what is shaping up to be an atypical 2014 awards calendar, with the directors, producers and now writers guilds’ ceremonies occurring a full month before next year’s Oscars on March 2.
The one-month awards season lull developed because schedulers are working around the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, which take place Feb. 7-23, as well as the Super Bowl, which is on Feb. 2.
