Hollywood is famous for having a very relaxed dress code, but the hierarchy of clothing was on no better display than the stars of “Grown Ups” (from left, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Kevin James and David Spade) onstage to present the best female performance award. The biggest stars, Sandler and James, looked as though they came straight from the grocery store, while Schneider looked dressed for a job interview. Who knows? Once upon a time, the censors kept their fingers near the button whenever the winners came to the stage. But for this year’s awards, the swear bleeps were everywhere: The presenter patter, the sketches, even the category names had to be censored. The unfunny conceit behind Mark Wahlberg, top, and Will Ferrell’s suspended-on-wires appearance during the Best Villain award presentation was that Ferrell thought it would be a good idea for them, but it wasn’t. And what was a really bad idea was to leave the stars suspended above the winner, British actor Tom Felton, as he delivered his heart-felt acceptance speech. Sandra Bullock generated a lot of headlines when it was announced that she’d be appearing to collect the Generation Award in person. But it’s got to be strange and mildly unpleasant to stand before a packed auditorium of people who are giving you a standing ovation primarily because every single one of them knows your husband cheated on you with a tattooed Nazi chick. “Can we go back to normal tomorrow?” Bullock pleaded during her speech.
