Last year’s acting winners — Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone — also are returning to the Oscars.

We look at the likeliest nominees in key categories — and offer up a possible surprise or two.

Stone won the lead actress honor for her chilling performance as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.” Stone also was victorious in the category in 2017 for her portrayal of an aspiring actress in Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land.”

Randolph, who played Mary Lamb in “The Holdovers,” took home her first Oscar last year for her supporting role as a mourning mother. Both Murphy and Downey Jr., also first-time awardees, won for their performances in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” — which earned seven awards in total that night, including best picture.
