Architect-to-the-stars Wallace Neff, perhaps best known for his mastery of the Spanish Colonial Revival style, designed this neoclassical residence for Ralph J. Chandler, a shipbuilding magnate and nephew of former Los Angeles Times publisher Harry Chandler.
Completed in 1960, the estate recalls the Pavillon de Musique du Barry with four Ionic columns lining a half-moon front porch. Inside, grand formal spaces are embellished with elaborate crestings, gold-leaf details and herringbone wood floors.
Grounds abutting the Wilshire Country Club include formal gardens by noted landscape architect Edward Huntsman-Trout.
