Cal Bears Coach Cuonzo Martin lands home in Piedmont

Cuonzo Martin, hired as the head coach of the California Golden Bears men’s basketball team in April, has purchased a home in Piedmont for $2.5 million.

The Tuscan-style residence, built in 1954, features updated interiors with cathedral ceilings, exposed beams and hardwood flooring.

A dining room, formal living room, a chef’s kitchen, an office/wine room, four bedrooms and three full bathrooms are found within the more than 4,100 square feet of living space. An elevator runs between the three-story floor plan.

The property includes a stone patio and tiered landscaping with fruit trees.

Martin, 42, was the men’s head basketball coach at Tennessee for the past three years and led the Vols to the Sweet Sixteen last season. He succeeds Mike Montgomery, who retired in early April following six season at California.

Sale of the home closed in early June, public records show. The property originally came to market in January with an asking price of $2.885 million. Teresa Baum of Pacific Union International was the listing agent. Paul Zuvella of BHG Mason McDuffie Real Estate represented Martin in the transaction.

As he settles into his Bay Area residence, Martin continues to shop his 4,985-square-foot home in Knoxville, Tenn. Originally offered for $874,900, the Sequoyah Hills property currently lists for sale at $849,000.
