Marlins reportedly offer Pujols 10 years

The Miami Marlins have upped their offer to free-agent first baseman Albert Pujols to 10 years, ESPN reported.

It wasn’t clear how much money was involved and whether the Marlins would be willing to give Pujols a no-trade clause, which the club normally refuses to do as a matter of policy.

The Marlins had offered the three-time National League most valuable player a nine-year deal that could be worth about $200 million.

Mets trade Pagan to Giants

The New York Mets agreed to trade center fielder Angel Pagan to San Francisco for outfielder Andres Torres and pitcher Ramon Ramirez, and reached agreements with free-agent relievers Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch.

Twins trade Slowey to Rockies

Pitcher Kevin Slowey was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named.

Slowey was 0-8 with a 6.67 ERA this year and was out from May to August because of an abdominal strain. He made eight starts and six relief appearances and the Twins were 0-14 in those games.

White Sox trade Santos to Blue Jays

Closer Sergio Santos was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Toronto Blue Jays for pitching prospect Nestor Molina.

Santos, 28, had 30 saves last season. The right-hander had a 4-5 record with a 3.55 earned-run average in 63 games.

Miller, Red Sox agree to deal

Left-hander Andrew Miller has agreed to a one-year deal with the Boston Red Sox, avoiding salary arbitration.

Miller was 6-3 with a 5.54 ERA in 17 games last season, including 12 starts. Boston was 9-3 in his starts.

Francona joins ESPN as analyst

When he left the Boston Red Sox, Terry Francona said the players needed to hear from a new voice.

ESPN has hired Francona to replace analyst Bobby Valentine, who is Boston’s new manager.
