Military deaths
The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan:
Michael L. Stansbery, 21, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; specialist, Army. Stansbery was one of two soldiers killed July 30 when an improvised explosive device was detonated near a security checkpoint near Kandahar, Afghanistan, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
Kyle B. Stout, 25, of Texarkana, Texas; sergeant, Army. Stout was one of two soldiers killed July 30 when an improvised explosive device was detonated near a security checkpoint near Kandahar, Afghanistan, south of Kabul. Jared N. Van Aalst, 34, of Laconia, N.H.; master sergeant, Army. Van Aalst was killed in combat Wednesday in northeast Afghanistan’s Kunduz province, which borders Tajikistan. He was assigned to the Army Special Operations Command at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
