CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / CARSON
Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting by Gardena police officers.
Police were responding to a reported burglary in the 16500 block of Normandie Avenue about 4:20 a.m. Friday when they saw a truck matching a description of the suspect’s car, said Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the incident.
The officers tried to stop the car, but the vehicle sped away. The officers then fired on Wilson Victorian in the 200 block of Dominguez Street in Carson, Saldana said. Victorian, a 59-year-old Compton resident, died at the scene.
Saldana would not say what preceded the shooting, nor would she, or the Gardena police, identify the officers.
An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
