Gunmen killed a state congressional candidate and his wife and two sons in their home in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco.
Jose Francisco Fuentes Esperon, 43, was found dead in the state capital, Villahermosa, along with his wife, 38, and two sons, 9 and 13, according to state Atty. Gen. Rafael Gonzalez Lastra.
He said the attack was carried out “with cruelty and viciousness” but gave no word on any possible motive.
Fuentes Esperon was a former university rector. The state government immediately offered to provide protection for any candidate who wants it ahead of Oct. 18 elections.
