Kellen Moore started Saturday as quarterback of an undefeated team ranked sixth in the nation, and as major-college football’s leader in touchdown passes and efficiency rating.
Then things got better.
Boise State not only won, 45-7 over San Jose State, with Moore completing 21 of 33 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns, the Broncos saw their overall standing improve with Oregon’s 47-20 rout of No. 4 USC.
(Boise State beat Oregon in a season opener.)
Moore also ran for a touchdown and one of his scoring passes went to his younger brother, Kirby. Now that’s a good day.
A look at how other prominent players fared:
Colt McCoy, Sr., QB, Texas: Completed 16 of 21 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown; also led the Texas running game with 34 yards in 11 carries in a 41-14 win over Oklahoma State.
Tim Tebow, Sr., QB, Florida: Completed 15 of 21 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns; also rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries in a 41-17 win over Georgia.
Jimmy Clausen, Jr., QB, Notre Dame: Completed 22 of 27 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-14 win over Washington State.
Case Keenum, Jr., QB, Houston: Completed 44 of 54 passes for season-high 559 yards and five touchdowns with one interception in a 50-43 win over Southern Mississippi.
Mardy Gilyard, Sr., WR, Cincinnati: Had six catches for 62 yards; had one kickoff return for 17 yards; and two punt returns for 55 yards in 28-7 win over Syracuse.
Jacquizz Rodgers, So., RB, Oregon State: Rushed for 112 yards in 24 carries; had seven catches for 92 yards; and completed his only pass for 14 yards and a touchdown in a 26-19 win over UCLA.
