City Section track championships on tap
Today at 4 p.m. at Lake Balboa Birmingham High
Why it matters: Crenshaw has three sprinters who hope to qualify for the state meet in the 100 meters: sophomore DeAnthony Thomas, who logged the fastest time of 10.73 seconds last week at the City preliminaries, junior Gregory Ducre (10.90) and junior Jonathan Downard (10.94). Their stiffest competition will come from Dorsey junior Robert Herron (10.76) and Santee junior Tevin Carter (10.78). Carter and Thomas are evenly matched in the 200 -- they posted identical times of 21.74 seconds last week. San Pedro’s Pablo Rosales hopes to dominate the distance events like he did last week and Crenshaw’s Moriah Johnson will try to qualify for the state meet in the high jump. Field events start at 4 p.m. and running events at 5 p.m.
