Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was sworn in for a second term, even as talks broke down with a key coalition partner.
President Pratibha Patil administered the oath of office to Singh and his core Cabinet at New Delhi’s red stone presidential palace.
Only 19 senior ministers were sworn in. Several more were expected to take the oath next week. The delay was apparently to allow Singh’s Congress Party time to complete coalition negotiations.
