Re “Walking 320 miles in Muir’s footsteps,” Column One, May 9
I know that the newspaper business is in a precarious situation in this economy. I do get much of my news online. However, I hope that papers such as The Times never have to sacrifice the quality and uniqueness of items such as Column One.
I thoroughly enjoyed the article about walking in John Muir’s footsteps. The pleasure was greater than reading online because I could curl up in a soft chair with a cup of coffee. I took my time looking at the large pictures and rereading paragraphs without scrolling up and down.
The pleasure was in the physical act as well as the mental.
