Re “Why can’t we all just stay out of one another’s way?” Column, May 3

The Steve Lopez column on bike paths was remiss in only one respect: It should have included in the “unconscious pedestrians” group those who refuse to follow a fundamental rule of the road -- walk facing bike traffic.

Despite pedestrians in most European countries being wise enough to do this consistently, most in Southern California seem to be oblivious to this logic (perhaps because walking on the left is counterintuitive to this automobile-focused culture).
