Military police killed a government minister who was to be a candidate in presidential elections and two former ministers, accusing them of planning a coup.
The killing of Territorial Administration Minister Baciro Dabo, former Defense Minister Helder Proenca and former Prime Minister Faustino Embali deepens a political crisis in the former Portuguese colony three weeks before national elections.
The three politicians are the latest victims of a power struggle in the West African country. President Joao Bernardo Vieira was killed by soldiers in March in an apparent revenge attack for the slaying of the head of the army.
Lawlessness has turned the country into a haven for Colombian cocaine traffickers who have been using it as a hub to smuggle drugs from Latin America to Europe.
