BEHIND THE LINES

Pedulla, Race & Sports Book director for Caesars Palace Las Vegas, will write an occasional update on the odds for the Feb. 1 Super BowI.

For the Super Bowl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals, the opening line favored the Steelers by 6.5 points and quickly moved to 7.

The line was justified because the Steelers are more of a public team matched against the Cinderella Cardinals. Also, over the last several years, the team with the better defense has prevailed. The Cardinals have scored at least 30 points in each of their three playoff games but have not faced a defense like the Steelers’.

I don’t expect much more movement in the line until next week.
