For your landlocked stateroom

Once a symbol of transatlantic luxury liner travel, the steamer trunk has returned as rugged and portable furniture that makes living out of a suitcase seem stylish. Manufacturers such as Three Hands, Interlude and Eco Exotic are using luggage-style details on dressers, desks and cocktail cabinets. In what might be called a case of excess baggage, the Belgian home accessories firm Chehoma offers a premium take on the classic trunk: a cowhide-upholstered chest with four drawers, each equipped with a leather handle and lined in green canvas. It will sell for about $3,000. For more examples, go to latimes.com/thescout.
