at Toronto 1, Oakland 0: Ricky Romero (2-0) gave up four hits and struck out a career-high seven batters in seven innings, and Lyle Overbay’s single drove in Kevin Millar in the second inning.
Detroit 8, at Seattle 2: Rick Porcello (1-1) gave up one run and five hits in seven innings in his second major league start, retiring the final 14 batters he faced. Porcello, 20, is Detroit’s youngest starting pitcher in nearly 30 years.
at New York 7, Cleveland 3: Pinch-hitter Jorge Posada’s drive to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning was ruled a two-run home run by video replay.
at Texas 6, Kansas City 5: Michael Young hit the first game-winning home run of his career, a leadoff drive in the ninth inning.
Chicago 12, at Tampa Bay 2: Gavin Floyd took a shutout into the seventh inning, and Carlos Quentin and Jim Thome hit consecutive home runs in the eighth inning to lead the White Sox. It was Thome’s 544th home run.
at Minnesota 3, Angels 1: The Twins completed a three-game sweep.
