Update: McDonald, 24, showed rare poise as a September call-up last season, tossing six scoreless innings to earn a spot on the Dodgers’ playoff roster. Garland pitched last season for the Angels, who acquired him from the Chicago White Sox. Garland wanted a multi-year deal this off-season, but the slow free-agent market forced him to settle for a one-year, $6.25-million contract from the Diamondbacks.
