Maybe Billy Payne was right about the weather

Birdie: Tim Clark. He won the Par-3 Contest and laughed at the jinx, saying that nearly 50 years of history would not prevent him from winning the main event. Clark shot 68 on Thursday, using wedges to birdie every par-five.
Bogey: Phil Mickelson. Did he even play Thursday? Mickelson got almost no air time, and with good reason. He made just two birdies in a 73.
Birdie: Greg Norman: Is he really 54 years old? All those cruel losses at Augusta have not aged him. If only Norman could have finished a brilliant round by draining a three-footer on 18 for 69.
Bogey: Tiger Woods’ shirt. Did someone dip his sleeves into a can of blue paint? If Nike can sell these duds, its marketing guys deserve AIG-caliber bonuses.
Bogey: Ernie Els. The Big Queasy shot 75, which had to feel more like an 80 during this birdie-fest.
