A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man suspected of breaking into a Lynwood-area business, officials said Saturday.
An informant flagged down two deputies from Century Station about 11 p.m. Friday, saying someone was breaking into the business in the 11600 block of Atlantic Avenue, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Art Spencer. The deputies split up, one approaching from the front of the business and the other from the back, Spencer said.
The deputy in front of the building saw a man come through the broken window while reaching for what appeared to be a weapon in his waistband, Spencer said.
“Fearing that the suspect was arming himself and fearing for his safety, the deputy fired one round, striking the suspect in the upper torso,” Spencer said.
Deputies discovered the man had been reaching for an 8-inch piece of jagged concrete, Spencer said. The man, whose name had not been released, died at a hospital, he said.
