A second Fisher House was opened Friday adjacent to Naval Medical Center San Diego to accommodate family members of military personnel undergoing treatment at the center. The $4-million project was underwritten by the Fisher House Foundation, the T. Boone Pickens Foundation and TriWest Healthcare Alliance.
The center’s first Fisher House, with eight bedrooms, was opened in 1992 and has served more than 4,000 families. The second house, with 12 bedrooms, is the 41st Fisher House across the nation under a program begun by the late New York real estate magnate and philanthropist Zachary Fisher.
