Tulelake’s forgotten history
It was disheartening to see that the article on Lava Beds National Monument [“Atop a Volcano, Underground,” Nov. 23] made very little mention of the destructive forces of U.S. policy in the area, with zero mention of one of the most regrettable points in U.S. history -- the World War II Tule Lake internment camp, where 20,000 U.S. citizens of Japanese ancestry were held.
I appreciate that The Times is encouraging visitors to explore the Tulelake area. The area is gorgeous. But the beauty of the area is tempered by its history.
