Pope falls short

Re “How the pope is saving Earth,” Opinion, July 14
It is commendable that Pope Benedict XVI has made a commitment to the global warming crisis by restoring 37 acres of forest in Hungary and plans to install a collection of solar panels atop the Paul VI Audience Hall.
But as much as we may applaud his actions, he seems to have overlooked the root cause of global warming: the overpopulation of this planet.
As much as those trees and solar panels are a step in the right direction, his greatest contribution to this problem would be an effort on his part to influence the world to support the movement toward family planning.
