A fair fight

Re “Burn that bridge,” editorial, July 9
I never stated, nor do I think, that the money from a parcel tax for gang programs should be divided by 15 council districts. My main concern is how the $30 million generated will be invested in the city’s new prevention and intervention programs. The stripping of current programs would negatively affect my district, even though gangs and injunctions exist across the San Fernando Valley.
Gangs do not recognize council district borders. That is why I voted to move the oversight of gang prevention to the mayor’s office and will continue to fight to make sure resources go where they are most needed. There must be a plan for the fair distribution of the $30 million. Voters deserve to be assured that their parcel tax money will be distributed to address gangs citywide, including in the San Fernando Valley.
