Can’t buy love
Re “Progress in Pakistan,” editorial, Feb. 20
This editorial said, “Since 9/11, the U.S. has given billions to [Pakistani President Pervez] Musharraf and yet is far more disliked than before.” You cannot win the hearts and minds of people just by giving money. You have to respect the sovereignty of other countries. You cannot force a country to go against its own interests. You cannot intimidate a country by saying that you will bomb its nuclear sites. You cannot be remembered in good words if your immigration officials mistreat people from Pakistan. You will be hated if you misrepresent a country in your media.
