Plastic bottles: An April 5 editorial stated that it took 17 million barrels of oil to produce 25.5 million PET plastic water bottles in the United States in 2006. According to a study by the Pacific Institute, it took the equivalent of 17 million barrels of oil to produce the 31 billion bottles of water consumed in the United States in 2006.
