‘The Politics of Heaven’: In the Aug. 15 Calendar section, a review of Earl Shorris’ book “The Politics of Heaven: America in Fearful Times” included the following observation about the author and the philosopher Leo Strauss: “Here, both Strauss and Shorris, as atheists and fundamentally secular thinkers, are brought up short by their systems’ limitations.” Shorris says he is not an atheist.
