Gay ex-governor defends Craig

From Times Wire Reports

Democratic former Gov. James E. McGreevey, who came out as gay and resigned last year in a scandal, has offered his support for beleaguered Sen. Larry E. Craig (R-Idaho). McGreevey said the public should not judge Craig harshly despite the outrage stemming from his arrest and guilty plea in a police sting.

In a letter published in the Washington Post, McGreevey urged Craig’s critics to “fill their hearts with compassion and equanimity.” McGreevey noted that Craig -- who is resigning at the end of the month -- “did not have a lover on the payroll, as I did; nor did he engage in sexual relations for money or use his office for unethical professional or personal gain.”
