City benefits from flex work

Re “Short-shifting L.A.,” editorial, Nov. 21
Five years of experience have clearly shown that the flexible work schedule has been a success for the Los Angeles Police Department. Crime rates are down and officers on flexible work schedules are working more hours and have improved morale.
Flexible scheduling allows officers to be more involved in community events throughout the day, from early morning breakfasts to neighborhood meetings in the evenings.
The department is now competitive in Southern California for officer recruitment and retention for jobs that require significant self-sacrifice and personal risk. As an added bonus, officers working the three/12 flexible work schedule contribute six additional police days to the department at no extra cost.
On every front that matters, flexible work schedule results have been positive.
