Change in bill could aid vets
Re “Veterans’ housing project is in limbo,” May 8
The Times reports that federal and state nondiscrimination laws preclude nonprofit groups from providing veterans-only housing using low-income tax credits and federal housing funds. Rep. Brad Sherman’s (D-Sherman Oaks) bill should include an amendment to nondiscrimination laws providing an exemption for such support to our mounting numbers of veterans, especially to the homeless and the huge numbers of those returning with post-traumatic stress disorder from Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas of combat.
