State police say mayor killed himself
From Times Wire Reports
The first black mayor to be elected in the mostly white town of Westlake had lost more than $200,000 gambling and was cheating on his wife, state investigators have concluded in deeming his December death a suicide.
Gerald Washington, 57, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest.
His wife and children theorized that he had been murdered.
The state police report said Washington had extramarital affairs with three women, one of whom threatened to tell a local television station about their relationship.
