A resident of a high-rise apartment building in downtown Long Beach died Wednesday night as a fire swept through his home, authorities said.
The victim was described only as an adult male who lived on the 18th floor of the high-rise, known as Galaxy Towers, at 2999 E. Ocean Blvd., said Will Nash, a spokesman for the Long Beach Fire Department.
Early reports indicated he may have jumped or fallen from a balcony.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. and was knocked down within an hour. The flames, Nash said, appear to have been contained largely to the victim’s apartment. No other injuries were reported.
