No. 1 KANSAS vs. No. 8 KENTUCKY
* at Chicago -- Kansas has the second-longest winning streak in the country at 12 games and wasn’t challenged in the regional’s first round against Niagara. Five of the Jayhawks’ six top scorers are freshmen or sophomores and they score a lot, averaging nearly 80 points a game. A win over the region’s top-seeded team would help calm the many Kentucky boosters who want Coach Tubby Smith fired.

No. 5 VIRGINIA TECH vs. No. 4 SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
* at Columbus, Ohio -- Southern Illinois won a defensive battle against Holy Cross, and the Salukis, third in the nation in scoring defense, are hoping for another low-scoring game. Salukis forward Matt Shaw, averaging 11.4 points and 5.7 rebounds, injured his ankle against Holy Cross and might sit this one out.
