Truck hits, kills pedestrian by USC
A pedestrian jaywalking across Jefferson Boulevard near USC was killed Thursday morning when he was struck by a large flatbed truck, authorities said.
Officials said the alleged driver, Cresencio Polanco, 38, of Los Angeles drove off from the scene, just west of Vermont Avenue. About three hours later, Polanco called the police, and about 3 p.m. he surrendered, officials said.
He was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and was being held at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division jail, with bail set at $100,000.
The victim was not identified and was only described as a Latino in his 30s.
LAPD spokesman Jason Lee said the man died instantly.
