KCRW to air tribute to facility
CAIRO — KCRW-FM (89.9) will air a one-hour homage to Columbia Square, the pioneering broadcast facility on Sunset Boulevard, at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The tribute, produced by Gerald Zelinger, features interviews and excerpts from classic radio and television shows, including recordings of personalities such as Norman Corwin, Art Linkletter, Marie Wilson, Jack Benny and George Burns.
Columbia Square opened in 1938 as the most modern broadcasting facility in the world and closed its doors in April. Historical preservation groups are working to preserve elements of the Hollywood landmark.
