A La Mirada man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a fourth-year philosophy student, authorities said.
Erik Aguirre, 19, was taken into custody at his home, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Esson, said.
Liberty Jaswal, 28, of Pomona was struck in a La Mirada parking lot Saturday and dragged more than 70 feet by a white Astro van. He died hours later at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
“The vehicle continued on after striking and driving over him,” Esson said. “I don’t think it was premeditated, but we are investigating.”
Aguirre was booked on one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit and run. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Authorities are looking for a woman in her 20s who was in the passenger seat.
