Army battles militants at refugee camp

From Times Wire Reports

Clashes intensified between the Lebanese army and Islamist fighters who had retreated into the heart of a Palestinian refugee camp after troops captured their outlying positions.

The fighting at the Nahr el Bared camp followed a day of uneasy calm after the Lebanese army claimed victory against Fatah al Islam. The 33 days of fighting have left 172 people dead.

Lebanese army helicopters fired machine guns at the camp and four shells hit the area in the afternoon amid scattered gunfire. Militants responded with assault rifles and machine guns.
