Courageous stand against golf course

Re “Coastal panel rejects Monterey golf project,” June 14
Congratulations to the California Coastal Commission on its courageous vote to protect the threatened Monterey pine forest and wetlands from another redundant golf course project. It did take incredible courage and integrity to stand up to Clint Eastwood, Peter Ueberroth and Arnold Palmer.
The argument used by Ueberroth that the investors need to make a reasonable return is irrelevant to whether the project should be built. Since when is the state required to guarantee that fabulously wealthy private speculators make a profit?
The commission is charged with the enormous task of protecting our magnificent California coast from unremitting development proposals. Thanks to the commission for its heroic stand against this outrageous project.
