RESULTS
* Florida 3, at San Diego 2: Byung-Hyun Kim outpitched All-Star Jake Peavy to earn his first victory since May 28. Kim and four relievers combined to hold the Padres to three hits as the Marlins split the four-game series with the NL West leaders.
* at Pittsburgh 6, Milwaukee 3: Adam LaRoche homered twice and Tom Gorzelanny outpitched Ben Sheets as the Brewers lost their third in a row. LaRoche had been mired in a three-month slump.
* Chicago 4, at Washington 2: Mike Fontenot broke out of an 0-for-16 skid with three hits, including the tiebreaking single in the seventh inning, and Daryle Ward added two hits and two RBIs.
* at St. Louis 3, Arizona 2: Adam Wainwright carried a five-hit shutout into the eighth inning and Juan Encarnacion hit a three-run homer for the Cardinals. Wainwright (7-7) induced four inning-ending double plays for the Cardinals, who took three of four from Arizona. Jason Isringhausen also induced a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the ninth.
* New York 6, at Houston 2: John Maine set a career high with nine strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings and catcher Ramon Castro had a two-run double filling in for Paul Lo Duca. Before the game, it was announced that Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt would replace injured Braves pitcher John Smoltz on the All-Star roster. Smoltz has a sore shoulder.
* at Cincinnati 6, San Francisco 3: Bronson Arroyo hit his third career homer, a solo shot that helped him end the longest slump of his career. The right-hander was 0-7 in his last 10 starts.
* Atlanta 8, at Dodgers 6: Chipper Jones hit two homers for the Braves and Brad Penny struggled for the Dodgers.
