Peter H. Marris

Peter H. Marris, a sociologist who was a professor of urban planning at UCLA from 1976 to 1991 before moving to Yale University, died of cancer June 25 at his home in Guilford, Conn., Yale announced. Marris, a native of London who wrote several nonfiction books mainly about urban renewal, as well as the novel “The Dreams of General Jerusalem,” set in Africa, was 79.
