Wolves soon to be off endangered list

Wolves in the northern Rockies will be removed from the endangered species list within the next year, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials said in Billings, a move that would open the population to trophy hunting.
The agency is also working to remove from the list a population of wolves in the Great Lakes region. The animals were declared at risk in 1974, shortly after passage of the Endangered Species Act.
