Curbs on rental homes to go before city voters

A proposed initiative to place restrictions on rentals of vacation homes received sufficient signatures and will be placed on the city’s ballot next year, officials said.
Some of the San Bernardino Mountains city’s bed-and-breakfast owners blame a drop in business on rentals offered by cabin and vacation-home owners, who pay lower taxes and face less-stringent health and safety codes.
The measure would require owners of vacation rental homes to obtain a city business license; pay a city fee; carry liability insurance; provide one paved parking space per bedroom; comply with city fire, health and building codes; and undergo annual inspections.
The petition needed 306 valid signatures and received 373.
