Is there common turf between jazz and the symphony orchestra? Bassist Christian McBride, the L.A. Philharmonic’s creative chair for jazz, thinks so. In “Jazz and the Orchestra,” he’ll explore both the similarities and the
differences via music and
interactive discussion in two Toyota Symphonies for Youth concerts featuring his all-star jazz ensemble (saxophonist Bob Sheppard, trombonist Alan Kaplan, pianist John Beasley and drummer Peter Erskine) and the Philharmonic, conducted by Joana Carneiro.
Jazz and the Orchestra, Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., 11 a.m. Saturday. $18. (323) 850-2000.
* Also Jan. 27, 11 a.m.
