From Times Wire Reports
At least five people were killed when an explosion went off as Somalian army chief Gen. Abdi Mahdi prepared to speak and government troops fired into the audience in response.
Thousands of people at the rally had marched through Kismayo, 260 miles southwest of the capital, Mogadishu, to support a proposed peacekeeping mission for Somalia.
It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion at Freedom Park. It was also unclear how many deaths were caused by the blast and how many by gunfire. At least 22 people were wounded.
