Who’s smarter -- hunter or prey?
Re “GOP candidates compete to see who can keep it real,” Dec. 27
After seeing your front-page picture of Republican candidate Mike Huckabee posing with a bunch of duck hunters, I thought it a good time to unearth the ineffable Ogden Nash for a moment of much-needed contemplation:
The hunter crouches in his
blind
‘Neath camouflage of every
kind.
He conjures up a quacking
noise
To lend allure to his decoys.
This grownup man, with pluck
and luck
Is hoping to outwit a duck.

Mr. Huckabee, if you want to make your boastings about being a great hunter even remotely credible, wrestle an alligator or a tiger. Or better yet, leave the animals alone. But shooting defenseless birds and varmints to show what a big man you are is as laughable as it is distasteful.
