Troops, militants killed in ambush
Islamic militants ambushed a convoy in Pakistan’s troubled North Waziristan tribal area, killing six soldiers and wounding at least 20 others, the army said.
Two intelligence officials speaking on condition of anonymity said seven of the wounded later died, but the army did not immediately confirm that.
Maj. Gen. Arshad Waheed, an army spokesman, said security forces backed by helicopter gunships spotted the fleeing militants and opened fire, killing 15.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto took her election campaign to the North-West Frontier Province, where tribal militants are fighting government forces.
