Whole Foods fan gives up on chain
I have been a Whole Foods groupie since my 1980s college days in Massachusetts when it was called Bread & Circus. I was drawn to its bright, lively atmosphere of cooking demos, free samples and organic philosophy. (“Is Whole Foods’ approach healthy?” Dec. 2.)
Today I visit there out of necessity for organic, unprocessed items other stores don’t offer. When the new Pasadena store opened I expected to see more high-end, creatively prepared foods, New York bakery-type pastries and better produce.
My expectations were dashed when I saw the same mundane, unimaginative offerings as their other area stores, which didn’t do the expansive new two-story store justice.
I am most upset that their produce quality has gone steadily downhill.
After almost 20 years, my love affair with Whole Foods is over. It has become a boring store.
