Business group opposes phone tax
A major business group, the Valley Industry & Commerce Assn., took a stand Friday against a telephone users tax that will appear on the Feb. 5 ballot in Los Angeles.
The city already collects the tax -- more than $200 million each year -- but wants voter approval to help stave off legal challenges. The proposed tax rate would be slightly lower, but would expand the number of services subject to the tax.
