A field with a future
Re “How to build in South-Central,” Opinion, Aug. 22
Manuel Pastor is absolutely right. An academy that trains youth to work in construction is an excellent way to reduce gangs and crime in our community. The mayor, the city, the police and the school should all get behind this program. As someone who works with gang members every day, an honest, good-paying job will go a long way in reducing gang violence. With a program like this, we can stop youth from joining gangs in the first place, and then maybe I would be out of a job.
